Early Learning and Child Care

The most critical years in your child’s development occur from birth to age 5. At Catholic Charities, our early learning classrooms are focused on nurturing your child and creating opportunities to help them grow, become school-ready, and build a path to a successful future. Use of the Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies incorporate learning in every interaction. We assess your child individually and craft lessons to their specific needs based on their age and level of development.

Some of the key skills your child learns:

  • Language skills
  • Physical development--fine and gross motor skills
  • Social and emotional development
  • Early literacy development
  • Listening
  • Communication
  • Attentiveness
  • Problem-solving
  • Early math
  • Creative thinking

Carroll Children’s Center and Growing Hope Child & Family Development Center provide licensed, quality-of-excellence-rated early learning classrooms. We serve all families, including children in kinship, foster care, bilingual or monolingual homes, and from economically diverse backgrounds. We have free Early Childhood Education and Assistance Programs (ECEAP) for children infant - preschool for eligible families.

Your child’s classroom size is based on their age. Infant rooms are staffed one teacher to every four babies. Waddler/Toddler classes (ages 1-2.5) have 8 – 14 children with two teachers, and preschool children (ages 3-5) have 10 students to each teacher. Our therapeutic classrooms serving children with challenging behaviors have one teacher to every five students.

Therapeutic Classrooms

Our two therapeutic classrooms are available for children at risk for abuse and neglect who might otherwise not be successful in a traditional child care or pre-school setting. Additional supports include early learning mental health consultants to develop behavior plans for each child, a family support specialist, and an early learning content specialist. The family support specialist often helps connect families with school resources once the child enters the school environment. Our goal is to help all students and their families become school-ready and prepared for success.
