Affordable Housing

This “self-help” homeownership program offers first-time buyers the chance to achieve their dream of homeownership. We help low- to moderate- income families learn skills to become successful homeowners. These services include establishing/repairing credit, budgeting, mortgage education, and home maintenance. Qualified families invest “sweat equity” during the construction process, which allows them to purchase a home with no down payment.

Mutual Self-Help Program – CCHS has partnered with USDA RD’s Mutual Self-Help Program to  provide opportunities for very low- and low-income families to achieve their dream of homeownership. Individuals and families must meet the USDA program qualifications and participate in a build group of 6- 10 families who build each other’s homes while contributing 65% of the labor component on the homes. CCHS provides the technical assistance necessary for families to successfully complete their homes.

Individual Self-Help Program – working with eligible very low- to moderate income families, CCHS provides an opportunity for families to achieve with dream of homeownership with little money down. Families are required to contribute 250 hours of sweat equity in exchange for a $2,500 credit at closing. Families may be eligible for additional down payment assistance.
