One Community, One Shared Vision of Hope
On April 6th, Mike Kay was ecstatic to receive the keys and title to a 33-foot "Class A" motorhome at our West Yakima location. Far from your standard RV, this motorhome had been previously retrofitted by Catholic Charities to serve as a mobile medical unit. Mike is the Executive Director of Camp HOPE, a low barrier emergency shelter in Yakima. This donation is the first of its kind between our two organizations, prioritizing the health and wellbeing of all in the community.
“We are just so excited for this, and so grateful to Catholic Charities!” says Mike.

The unit has a wheelchair lift, a waiting area, and several rooms for exams or case management. “This unit is something we’ve been hoping for,” explains Mike. “It will provide temporary shelter and safety during emergencies like the recent floods or extreme weather. We will be able to take people in real crisis situations and get them warmed up and offered a meal while we help them figure out what’s next."
“Our main use will be as a mobile case management office. We will be able to go to those who need help and assist them in real time, getting people connected to the resources they need. Having this unit will really change how we can help people.”

Dale Baker, Facilities Manager at Catholic Charities, is pleased the special vehicle will be again put to great use for the community. “We used the mobile unit in Wenatchee for several years. As the campus there grew, they didn’t need it anymore and it’s been in storage. Knowing what Camp Hope does, I thought they might be able to use it. Turns out it’s exactly what they needed! I’m really pleased that it will again be used to serve the community.
”Mike completely agrees. “This is so huge for us,” he said as the keys were handed to him on the afternoon on April 6, 2026. “Partnerships between providers are so important. We have a common goal to serve the community, and we’re just so grateful that Catholic Charities thought of us.”
