A Place to Begin Again: 95 Homes Restored in Grant County

Quincy Manor stands fully updated with new roofing, modern trim, and fresh paint—a vibrant look shared across all 95 renovated CCHS units in Grant County.
On July 14, community members, Catholic Charities Housing Services (CCHS) leadership, local partners, and friends gathered in Quincy to celebrate the completion of major renovations across three of our cherished housing communities: Quincy Manor (20 units), La Amistad in Warden (30 units), and Villa Santa Maria in Mattawa (45 units). Together, these improvements represent 95 updated affordable homes for families in Grant County!
The celebration began on a meaningful note as Fr. Cesar Vega Mendoza, pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Moses Lake, delivered an opening prayer and blessed both the attendees and the updated Quincy Manor property with holy water. State Senator Judy Warnick, a long-time champion of CCHS’s mission, highlighted the incredible collaborative spirit that made this initiative possible. She is quoted in the Columbia Basin Herald as staying:
"We’ve got nonprofits, we’ve got the community of faith and the city, [and] banks. Those are the type of projects I like, because people are vested in them. It’s not just a developer coming in and building it and charging rent and going away.”
Across all three developments, every single unit and community space received thoughtful upgrades, including fresh interior and exterior paint, new roof systems for long-term safety, upgraded cabinets and countertops, and updated community spaces with new playgrounds—bringing joy to local kids who now have safe spaces to play every single day!
Designed with young residents in mind, the new playground provides a safe, welcoming spot for kids to enjoy every single day.
Renovating 95 active, occupied homes is no small task. As Housing Developer Camille Gallegos shared during the ceremony, keeping families safe, comfortable, and close to their jobs and schools required creative thinking. In Quincy, families were comfortably accommodated nearby during the work. But in rural Warden and Mattawa, local housing options were extremely limited. CCHS partnered with local private builders who were completing brand-new units in town, convincing them to lease the spaces to CCHS temporarily so our tenants wouldn't have to leave their local communities.
Even regional weather posed a unique test! In Mattawa, powerful winds kept blowing away the courtyard mulch, leading to soil erosion. The CCHS team stepped in with a durable solution, replacing the park areas with rock landscaping so the beauty—and investment—stays put for years to come.
At Catholic Charities Housing Services, we currently operate more than 33 low-income, senior, and farmworker housing communities across Central Washington—totaling over 1,100 units—alongside our self-help homeownership programs. Preserving affordable housing isn't just about maintenance; it’s about honoring the dignity of every person who calls these places home. As Bryan so powerfully shared in his interview with the Columbia Basin Herald:

Interior and exterior enhancements ensure this 20-unit housing community remains safe, energy-efficient, and beautiful for years to come.
