Senior Services Team Honored with Three Statewide Awards
Recently the Senior Services Team attended the statewide Volunteer Services Meeting in Leavenworth, WA. Volunteer Services is committed to helping elders and adults with disabilities remain independent in their own homes through a network of caring community members. These services are provided at no charge and serve as a safety net for individuals who cannot afford to pay for assistance and do not qualify for other aid.
This collaborative gathering brought together partners from the three Catholic Charities organizations across Washington state: Catholic Charities Serving Central Washington, Catholic Charities Eastern Washington, and Catholic Community Services of Western Washinton.
The Senior Services Team was nominated for and received three awards for the meaningful work provided every day across the eight counties the organization serves. This year featured an '80s theme, and the team dressed up alongside many others to celebrate the theme: "Volunteer Services: Then, Now, and Next." Over the last two years, the team has worked diligently to anchor its efforts in connection, building a space of belonging for both volunteers and service recipients.
The statewide awards for the team were as follows:
- Kristen Jones, Senior Services Specialist – Spotlight Award: Recognized for her outstanding performance in volunteer recruitment. Since July 1, her efforts have resulted in a 45% increase in the volunteer pool for the Yakima office. Kristen has a natural ability to connect with others and clearly communicate the mission, inspiring individuals to get involved.

- Ivan Orozco, Grants and Data Specialist – Spotlight Award: Recognized for his foundational contributions to team operations. His coordination of grant and contract processes has created a level of consistency and reliability the team depends on daily. Ivan anticipates needs, identifies gaps, and implements systems that streamline workflows and reduce administrative burdens.

- Katrina Salisbury, Senior Services Lead – Motivator Award: Recognized for consistently bringing an enthusiastic energy that sets a supportive and engaged tone for the team. Katrina excels at keeping staff motivated; when challenges arise, she quickly reframes obstacles into achievable opportunities. As a lead, she balances encouragement with accountability, meeting team members where they are.
